Cloud ERP - Rootstock Rising

After massive expansion in the 1990s, the market for business applications addressing manufacturing, industrials, and wholesale distribution underwent major consolidation in the past 15 years. Recently, however, a crop of vendors has emerged with solutions designed to enable greater business agility. This research note analyzes Rootstock Software, and is the first in a series that will examine the emerging providers of manufacturing and business applications. In this research note (see attachment below), we look at the use case for cloud-based manufacturing ERP software and position of Rootstock in that market.

 Key Issues:

  • How can enterprises increase their overall business agility?
  • What are the best practices for agile manufacturing applications strategies?
  • Which vendors will make the transition to agile applications? Who are the losers?

Founded in 2008, Rootstock Software is a cloud-native manufacturing and distribution software solution that runs on platform. The company targets discrete manufacturing companies of all sizes. To date, it has found the most traction with fast-growing companies with green field implementations as well as enterprises with legacy ERP users looking to upgrade to multi-tenant SaaS systems.Rootstock is among the few cloud-first manufacturing vendors. Along with Ascent ERP and Kenandy, Rootstock is one of only three vendors with reference implementations on the platform, and is the fastest growing (by customer count) among those three. The company is winning deals vs. the native competitors, as well as beating other cloud and legacy vendors like Acumatica, Epicor, Infor, Plex, NetSuite, Sage, and SAP (BYD). Feedback from customers is very consistent (Participate in our Cloud ERP Study and make your opinion count). Unlike many traditional ERP vendors, Rootstock is often cited for its domain expertise in manufacturing and ability to understand the customer’s business at a detailed process level. See the attached research report for details.
